Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) are effective in improving plant nutrition and yield through various strategies. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of inoculation of plant growth-promoting bacteria on phosphorus uptake and quantitative as well as qualitative yield of two sugarcane varieties (CP73-21 and CP69-1062) during the second ratoon. To achive thais two separate experiments were conducted in two sugarcane fields during second ratoon at De'bal Khaza'i Agro-Industry, Khuzestan. Each experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block design with three treatments: 1- control (C), 2- inoculation of Enterobacter cloacae R33 (B33) and 3- inoculation of bacterial consortium (three strains of Enterobacter cloacae R33, Staphylococcus hominis 9E and Brevundimonas sp.) (Bmix) and in three replications. PBPR treatments were applied by spraying to soil. The results showed that in both studied fields, the application of PGPR treatments increased soil microbial biomass carbon, soil available phosphorus, and phosphorus uptake in the shoot of sugarcane. The results revealed that the B33 treatment was more effective than the Bmix treatment in improving phosphorus availability in the soil, increasing phosphorus uptake in the shoot, and increasing the quantitative and qualitative yield of sugarcane. In the B33 treatment, the yield of second ratoon sugarcane of the CP73-21 and CP69-1062 varieties was 9.3 and 10.5 percent, respectively, and the sugar yield was 12.3 and 12.6 percent, respectively, higher than the control treatment. In general, the results of this study showed that inoculation of Enterobacter cloacae R33 bacteria can be considered as one of the effective strategies in improving phosphorus nutrition and sugarcane yield in ratoon fields.
