Background and Objective: Trichoderma has always been considered one of the important biological agents in agriculture. In this study, one of the commercial products produced based on this fungus was investigated in order to evaluate its actual effect under commercial greenhouse cultivation conditions of bell pepper. Due to its high nutritional value, bell pepper is favored by consumers and consequently by farmers in Iran and worldwide.
Methods: This study was conducted in 2024 and 2025 to investigate the effect of the RTS-Trichoderma biofertilizer, a product of Royan Tisan Sabz Knowledge-Based Company containing Trichoderma harzianum RTS1, on the morphological traits and yield of bell pepper in a commercial greenhouse in Varamin County. The experiment consisted of two treatments, a control and the biofertilizer, and was carried out in a single greenhouse. The biofertilizer was applied three times through irrigation water according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Plants were randomly selected, and fruit length, diameter, weight, and flesh thickness, length-to-diameter ratio, number of lobes, and plant height were measured. After assessing the normality of the data and homogeneity of variances, treatment means were compared using an independent-samples t-test, and relationships among traits were examined using Pearson’s correlation coefficient. Statistical analyses were performed with SPSS version 26, and graphs were generated using Excel 2019.
Results: The independent-samples t-test results revealed that the RTS-Trichoderma biofertilizer treatment significantly increased fruit length from 92.67 mm in the control to 104 mm (12.3% increase; p < 0.05) and fruit weight from 169.67 g in the control to 194.75 g in the biofertilizer treatment (14.8% increase; p < 0.05). Fruit flesh thickness was also significantly greater in the RTS-Trichoderma treatment than in the control (p < 0.05). In addition, plant height in the biofertilizer treatment, with a mean of 261 cm, showed a significant 7.4% increase compared with the control, with a mean of 243 cm (p < 0.05). This pattern indicates that the RTS-Trichoderma biofertilizer mainly stimulated longitudinal fruit growth, increased fruit weight, and thickened the fruit flesh. The positive and significant correlation between fruit length and fruit weight (r = 0.759) also confirms that the increase in fruit weight occurred more through an increase in fruit length.
Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the application of RTS-Trichoderma biofertilizer can improve fruit length, weight, and flesh thickness, as well as increase plant height in bell pepper.
